vs Chelsea – 19.03.2017
The Luina Geelong Supercats Division 1 Women have given new Coach Natalie Hughes a first up win with an emphatic opening round performance against the Chelsea Gulls.
After an even first half, the Luina Supercats held a 12 point lead 44 to 32 then came out firing in the third term to open up a 20 point lead at the last break.
Candice Rogers and Caitlin Shadbolt did a great job on the dangerous Malika Jackson at the defensive end and then combined at the offensive end to hurt the Gulls on the scoreboard.
Rachel Wansborough and Billie Lucas kept the Gulls in the game but the Supercats intensity at the defensive end of the court was too much for Chelsea to overcome as the home side cruised to a 21 point win 80 to 59.
After the game, Coach Hughes said “It was a great team effort, particularly at the defensive end to hold Jackson well”.
Rogers top scored for the Supercats with 26 and Shadbolt finished with 16. Tess Feery was big with 15 boards for the game, 11 of them at the defensive end.
