Coaches Comments
‘I am proud of the way the boys played in this one coming off having the weekend off from training. They were fresh and concentrated really well, they played well as a team and shared the ball and were much improved at rebounding the ball. Very happy for them to be able to start their season off like this.’

Match Report
In the first home game of the season the young Supercats were unable to defend their home court. Casey’s game relied on fast transitions from defence to offence and made numerous la ups to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The Supercats were unable to get their own transition game going due to the extended defense of the Cavaliers. Geelong to their credit improved their shot selection from the previous week. Bendigo will prove tough next week.

Right from the start of the game our boys were switched on. Playing a team that had defeated us by 1 point the week before in a crossover game and nearly relegating us to the regional competition, the under 14 boys 2 team played like they had a point to prove.

Coaches Comments
The Boys continue to improve each game and with commitment will be a very competitive team in 2016. Great team effort

Match Report
The under 16 – 1 Boys travelled to the State basketball centre for their first Metro 1 season opener against Korumburra. Geelong held a small lead early but it slipped away and at haft time were down by 2. In the second half Korumburra got out to a 9 lead which was clawed back to 5 by 3 quarter time. The last quarter was a scramble in trying to catch up with Korumburra holding onto the ball for long periods of time. With less than 20 seconds left on the clock Korumburra went up by 2. Geelong took the ball down to their end and looked to score but with a couple of missed passes and the clock close to expiring we found a way to score on the buzzer and got a draw. The pleasing part was that we found a way and every one scored with Beau Mueller on 14 points, Ethan McDonald on 8 points and Jason Brandis had 7 points. Next week we travel to Hawthorn for game 2.

We got off to a flying start 14-3 at the end of the first quarter and scoring 9 of those points in the first 5 min. The 2nd quarter our turnovers really cost us and we let our opposition back in the game 24-18 at the main break. The last 2 quarters were low scoring and we did some great things in both offense and defence but unfortunately we were to inconsistent. The final score with a narrow 4p win 41-37.

Coaches Comments
Our boys warmed up well and started really strong but our ball movement at times was too slow and turnovers really cost us on the score board. It was good to see all our players doing there bit when they were on the court and all trying to improve in the areas we work on at training. Good to get a win first up but we will need to be a lot more consistent in both offense and defense to beat stronger , faster opposition.

Match Report
After coming off back to back wins, the boysfronted Melton on their home turf. Our last netting with Melton saw us lose by 11 points but not this time. Our transition offence was good with quality plays and team work that paid off. Our defence was also good but lacked a little strength sometimes.

Off to a slow start down 2 – 12 at quarter time. Our lack of ball movement prevented us get open shots and scoring was difficult. Two minutes into the second quarter we pressed and started to break the Dandenong defence down. With our girls now getting points from transition and with improved ball movement we started to get open shots. In the second half our girls out scored the more fancied team to close within 4 points late in the game. We lost a hard fought game by 7.

Coaches Comments
Our defence was first class holding a quality side to 40. What we need to focus on is creating and making our shots to ensure we have scoreboard pressure. We are making progress and we look forward to next week.

As a team we shot less than 12% from the field but for the most part they were fairly good looks. The girls tried hard and kept in contact with the margin blowing out a bit in the last

Shooting not a true reflection of the team, some passive defence and turnovers hurt at times but the positive is that it’s under our control, looking forward to next week

Geelong were outplayed and outworked in every facet of the game by a more committed Pakenham squad. A 7pt final margin flattered the Supercats, but was not enough to cover what was a very poor game.
Coaches Comments
When we are patient and execute properly, we are a good team. Unfortunately we don’t do that anywhere near enough.

Match Report
After a good solid warm up we hit the floor running tonight and immediately hit the scoreboard putting pressure on Dandenong. We gradually opened up a comfortable lead over the next 2 quarters. To Dandenongs credit they really came hard in the last quarter and put a lot of pressure on us which we soaked and remained fairly composed which was pleasing.

Match Report
After what seemed like a full season through grading and tournaments, our 1st game against the Jets would give us a clear indication on all the work put in. The girls played a very tight up tempo game in the first quarter with defensive pressure up which resulted in a 4 point lead a the first break. The start of the second period was much the same but with a timeout called by the Jets, our pressure seemed to relax with Sunbury starting to take control of the game. Turnovers and missed opportunities gave Sunbury a 4 point lead at the main break. We started to gain momentum in the third period but couldn’t hurt on the score board and let them off the hook over the last two terms to have a first up loss away to start our season.

Coaches Comments
Our work this week will be on keeping up the pressure for a full game. The team has the ability to win this comp but 15 minute bursts wont cut against teams in this pool.
