The excitement is building for the Geelong Supercats with the announcement today of rising Australian Opals star and current WNBL Melbourne Boomer star, Ezi Magbegor. This adds another exciting piece to the puzzle for the Supercats as they increase the size and athleticism of their roster.
At 19 years of age and standing 193cm, Ezi is an imposing figure on the Basketball court. She forms a formidable post rotation with another rising young superstar in Townsville Fire’s 193cm, Zitina Aokusa and last season’s SuperCats’ MVP Ebony Rolph.
Geelong SuperCats’ Head Coach, David Herbert, is looking forward to the arrival of Ezi and what she can bring to an exciting 2019 roster.
“Ezi is such an exciting athlete, I am really looking forward to working with her to develop her game further. I am aware of how athletically gifted Ezi is as a player and from what I have been told she is a wonderful team mate and person who is a terrific role model for our young players. It was a no brainer to add her to our squad this year.”
The SuperCats’ roster is now taking shape in what is anticipated to be an exciting season after the announcement earlier this week of the addition of Sara Blicavs.
“We were super competitive last year in the SEABL competition bombing out to eventual championship winners Bendigo in the preliminary final. Now the league under a new name and profile is going to a whole new level and we want to ensure we have a team capable of performing to the highest level.’ Coach Herbert added.
The SuperCats open their season on Friday March 29th with a blockbuster match-up against perennial powerhouse Nunawading. Magbegor and the SuperCats squad will commence pre-season training on Monday March 4th with the full roster together for the first time in preparation for round one.
