The Geelong Supercats are excited to announce the signing of Canadian national Becky Nash to help bolster the NBL1 Women’s roster for the 2020 season.
Standing at 6’4” and currently playing in Germany for the BG ’89 Avides Hurricanes, Becky brings great height and length to help strengthen the teams front court. Averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Hurricanes, her inside scoring and rebounding prowess will be utilised to balance the floor and lock down the paint.
Beginning her collegiate career at Saint Mary’s University in the 2012/13 season, her numbers improved every year and after transferring to the Mouth Royal Cougars for the 2015/16 season she finished her senior year averaging 8 points and 7 rebounds.
‘I’m very excited to get the opportunity to play with and be a part of the Geelong Supercats. I have heard great things about the city itself from a friend and former player of Geelong’ said Nash. ‘I look forward to getting to work with Head Coach Matt Paton in further developing and elevating all aspects of my game. I think we will have everything necessary to put in a lot of great work this season and be successful as a team. It has always been a dream of mine to travel to Australia, so getting to play, coach and train basketball is just the cherry on top. I plan to make the most of this opportunity with the Supercats and can’t wait to be calling Geelong home.’
Becky will be joining the team once her commitments with the BG ’89 Avides Hurricanes are completed and will look to hit the ground running with the NBL1 season right around the corner.
Head Coach Matt Paton was equally enthusiastic about Nash signing with the Supercats.
‘We are thrilled to have Becky joining our program for the upcoming 2020 NBL1 season. She will provide us with a great interior presence and has the game to contribute in a variety of ways. Becky has a unique ability to adapt to any role required within a team she plays on and is committed to continue working on her game out here against elite NBL1 opponents. From our conversations, I get the feeling that Becky is going to be a great fit not only for our program, but for the Geelong basketball community.’
Becky joins a roster boasting Sara and Steph Blicavs, as well as long-time Supercat Alex Duck as the team continues to add high quality players to a talented roster looking to go one step further in 2020.
