Crows Road Stadium Approved

On Friday 23rd of June Basketball Geelong received confirmation that our planning application with the City of Greater Geelong for the Crows Road stadium (to be known as AWA Alliance Bank Stadium) redevelopment had been approved… the final hurdle for us to jump through in the PLANNING phase of the project. This notification means that our dream of building our very own stadium is now a reality and we will move immediately into the BUILD phase. Basketball Geelong wishes to thank Darren Hall from Four18 Architecture and Todd Mexted from Spiire (planners) for their outstanding efforts in guiding us through this final planning stage.

The construction phase will start in early July with an anticipated opening of the stadium in late 2017. 4000m2 of flooring will be shipped and installed over the coming months, the single largest component of the stadium build. Basketball Geelong can confirm that Ace Flooring, the current flooring contractor of the Geelong Arena has been awarded the tender for the most important part of build. “To say we were impressed by the professionalism of Ace Flooring when they replaced the Annex floor last Christmas is an understatement” said Basketball Geelong CEO Dean Anglin “Ace will provide Geelong with a FIBA 1, 1st grade, fully sprung floor which will give players of all ages the very best flooring possible”.

The $1.65m fitout will be controlled by Darren Hall from Four18 Architecture who has been engaged as the Project Manager and will see this project from concept to completion. The stadium will include 6 Full Size basketball courts, the option to convert to 4 Full Size netball courts if required, Bluevane scoreboards & Ring Leader adjustable backboards and rings on all courts, Male and Female change rooms, ample toilets and on-site carparks. The venue will also be the first time that Basketball Geelong will manage the canteen in a basketball facility, providing a benefit to the association from the sale of food and beverage at the stadium too.

There are a number of added extras we want to provide within the facility that we are asking our members and the basketball community in Geelong to assist with. Tax Deductible Donations through the Australian Sports Foundation (CLICK HERE) will go towards things like Air Conditioning, a mezzanine spectator viewing area, additional seating and ensure the stadium is built to the highest standard. Donations made before this Friday (June 30) will allow you to claim immediately on you tax return. Please dig deep and help contribute to this facility that will provide for basketballers for generations to come.

Here’s a unique look at this new stadium… Thanks to Sign Foundry for the drone footage.

We ask all members also to remember that this project has been enabled by an unprecedented agreement between Basketball Geelong and AWA Alliance Bank that has allowed to the association to think outside the box to deliver much needed courts to Geelong.

The partnership has the ability to deliver to the Basketball Geelong on so many levels and it would be great to see our members support it. Not only will members access amazing banking opportunities through AWA Alliance Bank, but every member has the ability to contribute to the long term success of Basketball Geelong by banking with AWA Alliance Bank thought a partnership rebate program established between BG and AWA.
