Nathan Herbert Retires

After 389 games, 16 seasons and over 6500 points, Nathan Herbert will call time on his stellar career at the end of 2018. The SEABL Round 12 Men’s Player of the Week aims to go out on a high, with his 2018 Supercats right back in the contest after two massive wins last weekend.

Herbert joined the Geelong Supercats in 2002 and conference championships in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010, and national championships in 2006 and 2010. Herbert played for the Supercats every year between 2002 and 2011, before taking a year off in 2012 to travel around Europe with his wife Sally. He returned to the Supercats for the 2013 season, and in 2014, he was named co-captain a position he has held ever since.

In April 2015, Herbert played his 300th SEABL game, May 2017, he played his 350th SEABL game and provided the Supercats make it to the Championship Final of 2018, Herbert will finish his career on game 399.

Along with his SEABL career for Geelong, Herbert also played NBL in 07/08 and 08/09 for the South Dragons, winning the NBL Championship in March 2009. He then signed with the Adelaide 36ers after the Dragons folded following their championship-winning season and had a career-best season in 09/10, averaging 8.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 27 games.  Herbert re-signed with the 36ers for the 10/11 season. However during a pre-season game against the Townsville Crocodiles, Herbert tore his right ACL, which ruled him out for the entire season. After fully recovering from knee surgery, Herbert re-signed with the 36ers for the 11/12 season playing all 28 games for the 36ers in his final NBL season.

Herbert and his wife Sally have two sons, Xavier and Noah, with baby number 3 on the way. His father, Craig, played 102 NBL games for the Supercats between 1982 and 1987 and was a long standing President of the Supercats.
